Athan Merrick is an award winning cinematographer and producer with a background in lighting on big Hollywood productions and shooting adventure ski films, from massive studio sets to chasing professional athletes with a 50lb pack on his back in -20C in some of the most remote spots on earth. He was raised in the desert vistas of New Mexico by artist parents and settled well north in the ocean and mountain wonderland of Vancouver Island, Canada. These experiences meld into cinematography that brings souvenirs from the frontier to the screen. Highlights include a CSC (Canadian Society of Cinematographers) Award in 2018 for his work on the art installation, Uninterrupted, as well as a Leo Award in 2018 (BC Film Awards) for his ski film, Numinous.

Nicolas is an adventure outdoor creative, specializing in visual storytelling through photography and film. Based in Ucluelet, BC, and holding a M.Sc. in Hydrology, Teichrob’s projects seek to expand the collective awareness of environmental issues while encouraging outdoor recreation and exploration of our wild places. He is co-founder of Dendrite Studios as well as ‘Take a Stand Youth for Conservation’ outdoor education program. Visual highlights include the West Coast B.C. surf/SUP environmental film – STAND (2013), Jumbo Wild (2015), Canada Wild’s salmon projection installation in Vancouver, BC  – Uninterrupted (2017), and a timeless snow film by Dendrite Studios – Numinous (2017). Accolades include a Canadian Society of Cinematographers CSC Award for Best Experimental/Unique Cinematography (2018) with Athan Merrick for their work on Uninterrupted, and NUMINOUS took home Movie of the Year and Best Post Production (Powder Awards), a Leo Award for Best Documentary Cinematography (2018) and a Leo Nomination for Best Documentary Editing (2018). Ongoing research explores various methods of sharing imagery beyond two-dimensions with Spun Spectra, a photographic-sound series of illuminated prints and resonating cedar panels, and SoundGarden, an audio-visual annual installation utilizing projectors, holograms, and natural landscapes to expand our spatial scales of engagement in collaboration with musician Giorgio Magnanensi and others.

His creative ventures expand through all aspects of his life, most notably with his current large scale art project, a progressive home nestled in the old growth here in Ukee – ‘Lotn House. A key component is the green roof, which minimizes the negative ecosystem impacts of building a house and serves as the sky garden where native plants, vegetables, and chickens grow at forest canopy level. Nicolas’ adventures have taken him around the globe, with the vast majority of his time spent along the stunning coast of British Columbia capturing and sharing moments of beauty and light throughout.
